Iran Cracks Down on Unruly Women
from the BBC
Thousands of women have been warned---and hundreds arrested---by the Iranian fashion police for "bad hijab," meaning that the head scarves that these women are wearing are not conservative enough.
Police cars are stationed outside major shopping centres in Tehran.
They are stopping pedestrians and even cars---warning female drivers not show any hair - and impounding the vehicles and arresting the women if they argue back.

That's right, put them uppity wimmens in their place! Authorities are even closing stores and covering up "vulgar" mannequins!
Some men are being arrested as well. Their offence: western-looking hair styles.
Although Iranian TV reports that 86% of people were in favor of the crackdown,
Iranian women have found ways of expressing their individuality and returning to drab colours like black, grey and dark blue is not something they will accept easily.
